Oil Prices Surge 2% After Trump Cancels Envoy Mission to Pakistan – US-Iran Negotiations Collapse, Strait of Hormuz Tensions Rise | Langit Eastern

Global crude oil prices jumped more than 2% after the second round of peace negotiations between the United States and Iran collapsed again. President Donald Trump abruptly cancelled the departure of his envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, to Islamabad, Pakistan. The reason: too much time wasted on travel and chaos within Pakistan’s leadership ranks.
Brent crude oil rose more than 2% to US$ 107.89 per barrel at 18:27 local time. US crude also climbed more than 2% to US$ 96.63 per barrel. This surge was directly triggered by the failure of the second round of US-Iran negotiations originally scheduled in Islamabad.
The situation in this critical maritime chokepoint escalated further. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard reportedly intercepted two cargo ships near the Strait of Hormuz. This strait is one of the world’s most important oil transit routes. Any disruption here can significantly move global energy prices.
Trump stated on Truth Social that the US has full leverage over Iran. “Too much time wasted on travel, too much work to do! Besides, there is infighting and confusion within their ‘leadership,'” he wrote. He added: “We hold all the aces. If they want to talk, just call!” Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei confirmed that there are no plans for a meeting between Iran and the US.
